Sometimes the body responds before our thoughts catch up. Breathing becomes shallow, shoulders tense, the heart beats faster, and rest no longer brings real relief. Somatic Breathwork invites you to notice these signals — without judgement or the need to “fix” yourself straight away.
What is Somatic Breathwork?
Somatic Breathwork combines conscious breathing with awareness of the body. During a session, we pay attention not only to what you think, but also to tension, emotions, impulses and subtle responses in your body.
Your breath can become a way to slow down, deepen your connection with yourself and make room for experiences that everyday life can drown out. The aim is not to reach a particular state or perform the practice “perfectly”. Everyone experiences the process differently.
You do not need to know how to breathe the right way. You can arrive exactly as you are.
What happens in your first session?
Our first meeting takes place online and lasts around 90–120 minutes. I guide you step by step, adjusting the pace to your needs and your body’s responses.
1. We begin with a calm conversation
We talk about what brings you here, how you feel on the day and what you need right now. This is also a time for questions and for setting boundaries. You do not have to share more than you want to.
2. We prepare your body and space
You settle comfortably somewhere you feel at ease. Headphones, a blanket, a pillow, an eye mask and a bottle of water may be helpful. Before the more active part of the practice, we take time to settle and notice how your body feels.
3. We move into conscious breathing
I show you the technique and guide you with my voice, accompanied by carefully chosen music. You may notice changes in tension, temperature or breathing rhythm, as well as emotions or images. You may also feel nothing dramatic — all of these responses are okay.
4. We leave time for integration
After the practice, we do not rush back into daily life. Your body has a moment to settle, and you have time to notice what remains from the experience. We finish by talking about the session and simple ways to care for yourself over the following hours.
What might you feel during a session?
Responses are personal and may change from one session to another. Some people notice relaxation, warmth, tingling, yawning, a desire to move, tears or renewed energy. Others mainly experience quiet and a stronger sense of being present in their bodies.
The goal is not to bring about a particular emotion. What matters most is safety, staying connected with yourself and being able to pause or adjust the intensity of the practice at any time.
Who might find this practice helpful?
A session may be helpful if you live with a lot of tension, find it difficult to rest, feel disconnected from your body or would like to understand your needs more clearly. You do not need previous experience with meditation, yoga or breathwork.
Somatic Breathwork does not replace medical advice, psychotherapy or psychiatric treatment. Before the first session, each participant completes a health screening form. If anything needs clarification, we discuss it before meeting.
How can you prepare for your first session?
- Eat a light meal around 1.5–2 hours beforehand.
- Choose a place where you will not be disturbed.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
- Have headphones, water, a blanket and a pillow nearby.
- Leave yourself a little quiet time after the session, too.
You do not need to arrive with a clear goal or know exactly what you need. We can begin with one meeting and see how this way of working feels for you.
